Wonder Square
Wonder Square is two rooms chalked full of little mini games. This is also where you will meet Cait Sith your first time through. There are mostly unique mini games, but there are three replica's of events from the story. These particular mini games do
not become available, until after you complete them in the game. There is a little bit of everything in here, including some items you can get for GP. So let us step into the first room, and have a look around.
Room 1
Arm wrestling Sumo Cost: 100 Gil
In this game, you get to arm wrestle one of two opponents. You can face up against the Wrestler, or you can match against
the Sumo. Both are pretty easy to beat. Just rapidly hit the button, until you have pinned your opponent .
Win- 1 Gil from the Wrestler
2 Gil from the Sumo |
Super Dunk Cost:200 Gil
With the Super Dunk the objective is painfully easy...make a basket. If you get a shot, you will get 1 GP, and the chance
to shoot again. If you get 10 shots in a row, you are given a chance to double the GP. If you make the shot, your GP doubles.
if not, you only get 1 GP, and the game ends. If you miss at any time, you will get the GP you made in baskets to that point.
The best thing to do to get the shots is hold the button down for less than a second. Then fire away.
Win- 1 GP per shot made |
Wonder Catcher Cost: 100 GIL
This is basically as pointless as the stuffed animal bins you find at Denny's. Either you will get GP, a Potion, or nothing.
Win- GP, Potion, or nothing...a very large waste of time. |
GP Exchange
There is a lady in the first room, that will exchange GP for items. Those items are:
The three hidden items are the Carob Nut for 500 GP, the Gil Plus Materia for 1000 GP, and the Exp Plus Materia for 2000 GP. Both Materia are excellent choices to get multiple copies of.
Back Room
In the second room, you will find even more things to do, as well as the three event games. These games have a bit more difficulty than the first ones, but they are not too hard to do. Below are the games found in this room.
Fortune Teller Cost-50 Gil
Here is the other fortune telling machine in the Gold Saucer. (Cait Sith being the first) You place 50 Gil into the machine,
and it will tell you your future.
*Note* The reading does not change, until you leave the Gold Saucer and return. |
Mog House Cost-100 Gil
In this game, you have to help Mog impress his girlfriend by flying. In order to make him fly, you need to feed him Kupo Nuts. If you give him too many, he will fall. If you do not feed him enough, he won't be able to take off. Watch Mog carefully to find out how many to give him. If he is still hungry, he will rub his tummy, and it will make a growling noise. He will squeak if he has had enough nuts. Stop feeding him the nuts, and have him fly for his girlfriend.
Solution- Feed him 5 Kupo Nuts the first time, & 3 the second time.
*Note* Once you successfully complete the Mog House, speak to the man behind you. He tells you that he likes your problem
solving skills, and hands over 30 GP. |
GI Bike Race Cost- 200 Gil
This is the only game you can play on your first visit through the Gold saucer. This game is simply a re-make of the bike
chase you went through, while you were escaping Midgar. Even the objective is the same as in the story line. You ride on the
bike, and try to keep the other bikers from hitting the car. There are two types of bikes as well. They are:
Orange Bikers- These are the idiot riders. They go into the chase simply to hit the car. You can easily get rid of them.
Red Bikers- these ones are smart. They will try to draw you away from the truck, allowing other bikers to nail it.
Knocking the bikers over is pretty easy. But in case you cannot just smack them, here are the three ways to do it:
1- The standard method of using your sword.
2- Knocking them over with your bike
3- Knocking them over with a bike you knocked over.
Each time you drop a bike to the ground, you get 500 Pt's. That said, every time you let the car get hit, you lose 25
Pt's. You need to stay close behind the truck, and hit the bikers as they approach. Do not run after them, unless they are
directly attacking the truck. Let them come to you.
Win
Do good, and get GP
Do really well, and get GP and an item. |
Snowboarding Cost-200 Gil
This game is available once you have done the snowboarding from Icicle Inn to the Great Galcier.
You are given the option of three courses to take. They are the beginner, expert, and crazy. The object of this game
is to collect points, by gathering balloons. The points are determined by the color of the balloon.
Red balloons.....1 PT
Blue balloons....3 PTS
Green balloons...5 PTS
You will also get technique points for how well you do on the course. If you can complete the course without hitting anything,
you will get a perfect score. For everything you hit, you lose 1 point. Not everything will cost you points if you hit them.
For example, if you hit a Moogle on its sled, you won't lose any points. If you hit them after they have fallen off, you get
knocked the point.
Win
Do good and get GP.
Do real well, and get GP and an item.
Torpedo Attack Cost-200 Gil
This game becomes available after you acquire the Shinra Submarine, on Disk 2.
There are five levels to choose from in this game. The first level is a repeat of the storyline sub battle. The other
three are unique levels, that progress in difficulty. The difficulty is increased by either adding more enemy subs, or making
the commanding sub harder to sink. The prize is unfortunately the same, no matter what the difficulty is.
Your objective is simple: defeat the enemy subs, before they sink you. You can fire 1-4 torpedoes at a time. If you fire
all four at once after locking on to a sub, you should easily sink it to the depths of Davy Jones locker.
Also be very careful of the mines found on top of the columns. The columns are not dangerous, but the mies will cause
damage to your sub if you get too close.
The sonar screen is definitely helpful in locating the enemy sub, if you happen to lose sight of it.
Win
20 GP and an item
That is all the games found in Wonder Square. Try and see how well you do with each one of them. There are no real prizes
here, and you can gain a lot more GP racing your Chocobo's, but the games are fun to play. If you got the extra time and money,
head in and play! |
